Toffler Associates announced today that change maker, author, and former GE vice chair Beth Comstock is selected as the recipient of the 2018 Toffler Associates Award of Excellence in Change Leadership. The award recognizes an individual or organization making contributions in an area critical to creating and thriving in a better future. It will be presented later this year at Future Shock ForumSM, the biennial, invitation-only business program hosted by Toffler Associates.
“We’re thrilled to recognize Beth for her long career of heralding impactful change in business. At GE, Beth identified trends early and drove enterprise innovation in clean energy and digital media – concepts readily accepted today but once were very disruptive ideas,” said Deborah Westphal, CEO of Toffler Associates. “Beth’s passion for discovery, innovation and understanding what’s next to successfully navigate change are very reminiscent of the work Alvin and Heidi Toffler pursued,” she added.
In nearly three decades with GE, Comstock led efforts to accelerate new growth and innovation, initiated GE’s digital and clean-energy transformation, seeded new businesses and advanced GE’s inventive culture. Comstock created GE’s sustainable business strategy, ecomagination, and under her leadership, the company expanded into new areas of innovation and future technologies, and its brand value grew to more than $44 billion. Comstock’s first book, “Imagine It Forward” will be published in September and is about summoning courage and creativity in the face of change.
“I’ve long admired Alvin Toffler’s work.” said Comstock. “I’m very pleased to accept this award that honors his legacy and celebrates a natural curiosity about the future and world in which we live.”
Future Shock Forum 2018 will be held on October 15-16 in Chicago, IL. Inspired by the intimate gatherings of curious and accomplished friends and colleagues that Alvin and Heidi Toffler regularly hosted in their California home, Future Shock Forum engages nearly 100 of today’s top leaders, innovators and thinkers in dynamic exchanges about leading effectively in an age of continual disruption and how organizations can best adapt to a changing future. This year’s program will highlight foundational shifts reshaping our world including biodigital convergence, geopolitical power shifts, infrastructure adaptation and societal collisions. The event will feature a spotlight conversation between Comstock and Westphal.
